This cup is made from corn plastic, also known as polylactic acid (PLA). PLA is an alternative to the typical oil-based plastics and it is made from a vegetable (USA-grown corn in this case!) and therefore it is renewable and biodegradable. In fact, it meets the ASTM D6400 compostable plastic standards and should biodegrade within 90-120 days in a commercial composting facility.
NEW: Cups now come with a green stripe around the bottom that reads “Compostable.”
